How does Nalapad Academy enable students to become ‘self-reliant’?
At Nalapad Academy, we encourage our students to become independent and good decision makers. This ensures that they are likely to be focused, goal-oriented, confident in their abilities and committed to their learning. While some students become self-reliant on their own, others may require some direction. Here is how Nalapad Academy transforms your child into an independent and self-reliant learner.
Assigning class room responsibilities
Giving our little learners jobs as a teacher helper is a great way to help boost students’ self-esteem and a sense of excitement, responsibility, community and interdependence in a classroom. At Nalapad Academy, students feel comfortable in the classroom, giving them a purpose beyond just being `a student’. Teachers describe each job and reinforce the values of responsibility, accountability and trust. Teachers allot class chores to students to help them assume responsibility. Every week, teachers arrange for a team of students to manage the classroom on a rotational basis. The students very enthusiastically take the responsibilities assigned to them in a meaningful way.

Trained to master the art of table etiquettes and practice good manners
We believe that personal grooming is an important aspect apart from academic and intellectual development. At the Nalapad Academy, we do so by nurturing our students with essential life skills of basic table manners and dining etiquettes at the cafeteria. Students are educated to behave in the right way at the table and learn the importance of table manners. When children are taught good table manners, they are given the opportunity to create the right social etiquettes, norms and conventions that are likely to help them throughout their lives.
Create shared classroom expectations
In the beginning of the year students are given an opportunity to collaboratively brainstorm classroom expectations and come to an agreement with the rules and regulations they have designed to follow. The students create a poster of the rules, which is displayed in every classroom and reiterated periodically.
Being responsible beyond the classroom:
At Nalapad Academy, students are encouraged to take charge of planning, continuing and evaluating their learning experiences. For instance, our high school cooking enthusiasts volunteered for an activity of making waffles independently. They gallantly took ownership of the entire process. Children donned aprons and toques and took great pride to showcase their dishes in an artistic and aesthetic way.
The students of middle and high school organised and volunteered at a blood donation camp conducted at our campus on the occasion of our Founder’s Day on Saturday the 23rd of July 2022, in association with Manipal Hospital. The students also took the responsibilities of educating people on the importance of donating blood. They were awarded certificates by Manipal Hospital for their effort towards making the camp a success.
Encourage Socialization:
Students at Nalapad Academy are encouraged to socialize and form friendships with their peers. This is further established by teachers who come up with various grouping strategies to aid the socialisation process. This in succession helps the students understand, accept, respect each other and empower them to feel confident.
Setting Predictable routines at Nalapad Nest, our pre-primary section:
We believe that children of all ages should be encouraged and taught to help around the class with age-appropriate tasks. This teaches children from early on how to contribute, and is a great way to build confidence. It creates a sense of responsibility like where to remove their footwear, to wash their hands before every meal, follow classroom rules, walk in a line and basic activities like identifying their belongings.
The pre-primary teachers also took the students to a supermarket for a field trip. The students were familiarised with the process of shopping for fruits and vegetables. This helps them become independent and confident while doing such tasks in the near future. These tasks also help our pre-primary students to understand the world around them.
